Grinberg Mark Iosifovich

Born 02/10/1896 in Odessa. He graduated from a commercial school in Samara with a gold medal (1913). Participant in the First World War (1915–1916). Graduated from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (1922). He worked at the Leningrad Metal Plant named after. I.V. Stalin (1923–1957) in the positions of design engineer, head of the design bureau of steam turbines, technical director, chief designer of steam turbines (since 1944). He made a great contribution to the development of the country's energy sector. Under his leadership, the country's first steam turbine with a capacity of 2–5 MW with a shaft rotation speed of 3000 rpm (1931), a single-shaft condensing turbine with a capacity of 100 MW (1936–1937) was designed, and for the first time in the world, cogeneration turbines with steam extraction for production were created, Eleven types of turbines were developed and produced by the plant (1931–1941). Since 1929 he taught at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute and the Higher Technical Educational Institution at the Leningrad Metallurgical Plant named after. I.V. Stalin, professor (1935), Doctor of Technical Sciences (1947). Arrested on April 29, 1938, released on October 28, 1939 due to the termination of the case. At the beginning of the blockade, he was evacuated to Verkhnyaya Salda in the Sverdlovsk region, then to Podolsk. During the Second World War, he was one of the organizers of the production of spare parts for the entire turbine fleet of the USSR at the Sverdlovsk Turbomotor Plant.
