Genus. 02/12/1889 in Dnepropetrovsk; Russian; Specialized secondary education: graduated from drama courses at the Art Theater. Since 1918 Honored Artist of the Republic. In 1931 he created the Theater and Literary Workshop (in 1935 renamed the Theater-Studio under the direction of A.D. Dikiy. Head of the Moscow Art Theater. Arrested 08/17/1937. Sentenced by the OS NKVD of the USSR 09/02/1938 under Article 58-10, 11 to 5 years in prison. Sent to Usollag NKVD. By resolution of the USSR NKVD OS of 08/28/1941, the case was closed. Died 10/01/1955. Buried in Moscow at the Novodevichy Cemetery.
