Shukhaev Vasily Ivanovich
Genus. in 1887 in Moscow. He graduated from the Stroganov Art and Industrial School and the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1912). In 1917 he was elected professor at the Petrograd Academy of Arts, and at the same time worked at the Stieglitz school. In 1920 he illegally left for Finland, then to France. In June 1934 he returned to the USSR. In 1935-1937, professor of painting at the Academy of Arts (Leningrad) and the Academy of Architecture (Moscow), production designer at the Mariinsky Theater, illustrator of the academic publication "History of the Civil War". Arrested in the spring of 1937, sentenced to 8 years in labor camp on charges of espionage. In custody in Kolyma since December 13, 1937. Until 1939 he worked at a logging site near the village of Kinzhal, then in the repair shop of the 4th Motor Depot near the Strelka camp in Nagaev Bay. In 1940 he was transferred to Magadan, where he designed the House of Culture named after A. M. Gorky, and designed performances of the Magadan Music and Drama Theater (since 1945 - as a civilian employee). Released on April 29, 1945. In 1947 he settled in Tbilisi, Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR, and was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
