Physicist, popularizer of physics
Genus. in 1908 in Sevastopol; Jew; b-p; higher education. Physicist, senior Researcher at the Ukrainian Institute of Physics and Technology (UPTI). Lived in Kharkov, st. Tchaikovskogo 16. Arrested by the SPO of the State Security Directorate of the NKVD of the USSR in the Kharkov region on November 28, 1935 under Art. 54-10, 54-14 Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR. Charges were brought under Art. 97 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR. Sentenced on February 26, 1936 by the special board of the Kharkov Regional Court to imprisonment for 1 year and 6 months. 08/13/1936 the case was closed, the undertaking not to leave was cancelled. In February 1937 he moved to Moscow. He worked at the Department of Physics of the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after Bubnov and in the popular science magazine “Technology of Youth”. Arrested on April 27, 1938 in Moscow, during the investigation he was kept in Lefortovo prison. Sentenced on November 25, 1939 under Art. 58-10 and 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR (“Propaganda or agitation containing a call to overthrow, undermine or weaken Soviet power”) to 10 years of corrective labor. Sent to Pechorlag, near the village of Mezhoga. During his imprisonment, he worked as a quality control inspector at the 14th column of the Urdom branch of the Sevzheldorlag. Arrested 11/06/1941. Sentenced on March 17, 1942 by the military tribunal of the NKVD troops for the construction of the Siberian Railways highway under Art. 58-10 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 10 years in prison and 5 years of disqualification. Amnestied 03/18/1952. Until 1958, he was in exile, working as a senior electrical engineer at the Intaugol plant. He returned to Moscow, worked at the Nature magazine, and wrote books under the pseudonym Karev. Rehabilitated in the 1942 case in 1958 , in the 1938 case in 1990.
