Genus. November 17, 1908 in with. Feskovka, Mensky district, Chernihiv region. Ukrainian poet, translator, literary critic, dissident and human rights activist. Arrested with his wife on October 8, 1943. Convicted by the Military Tribunal of the NKVD troops of the Poltava region. March 11, 1944 Sentenced to 10 years in labor camp and 5 years of disqualification. He served his sentence in Inta. Released in 1953, rehabilitated in 1962. In 1968 he signed the Letter of 139 against illegal political courts in Ukraine. In 1973 he was expelled from the Union of Writers of Ukraine, in 1988 he was restored. Winner of the M. Rylsky and T. Shevchenko prizes for translation activities, awarded the medal of the Scientific Society named after M. Grushevsky. He died on December 15, 1994 in the city of Irpin, Kyiv region.
