Kulish Nikolay Guryevich
Ukrainian writer, playwright, director and public figure
Born 12/18/1892 in the village. Chaplinka Tauride lips. (modern Kherson region, Ukraine); Ukrainian, from peasant background; secondary education; member of the Communist Party (b)U in 1919–1934. He graduated from high school (1913), studied at the Odessa school of warrant officers. Participant 1st world. war in 1915–1917, staff captain (according to other sources, lieutenant) of the tsarist army. Participant roar. events and the Civil War in Ukraine. From the beginning 1918 - Chairman of the Oleshkovsky Council of Workers' and Peasants' Deputies. In 1919–1921 he served in the army, participated in battles with Denikin’s troops, and from 1920 he was chief of staff of the Dnieper Peasant Regiment. In the beginning. In the 1920s, he edited a newspaper and headed the Oleshkovsky district department of public education. From 1922 in Odessa, he worked in the provincial department of public education, a school inspector. Since the summer of 1925 in Kharkov. Professional writer, playwright (author of more than 15 plays), participant in literature. associations, one of the leaders of the writers' union "Free Academy of Proletarian Literature" (until 1928). Member of the editorial board lit. magazine "Red Path" and a number of others. In 1934 he was expelled from the party for writing an "anti-party nationalist play." Arrested on 12/07/1933 in the case of the Borotbist k/r organization, under investigation in Kyiv. Sentenced on March 28, 1935 by a visiting session of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR under Art. 54-8, 11 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR to 10 years in labor camp. In custody on Solovki. By resolution of the Special Troika of the UNKVD LO dated 10/09/1937 he was sentenced to VMN. Shot on November 3, 1937 in the Sandormokh tract (Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic). Rehabilitated in the 1935 case on 08/04/1956 by the ruling of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR. In October 2015, a memorial sign was erected in K.’s homeland (the town of Chaplinka).
