Zerov Nikolai Konstantinovich (Mikola Zerov)
Ukrainian literary critic, poet, translator, leader of the “neoclassical” group
Genus. in 1890 in the city of Zenkov, Poltava province; Ukrainian; from employees; higher education; non-partisan. Graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of Kyiv University (1914). Published since 1912, the first collection of poetry. "Kamena" (1924). Since 1917 he worked as a teacher in various departments. educational institutions, since 1923 professor of Ukrainian literature at the Kyiv Institute of Public Education (INO), specialist in ancient classics. In September 1934 he was removed from teaching at the university and moved to Moscow. Address before arrest: Pushkino, Moscow region, 1st Gogolevskaya st., 1, apt. 1. Arrested on the night of April 26-27, 1935 in Pushkino, in May he was transferred to Kyiv. Accused of leading a “Ukrainian k/r nationalist organization.” Sentenced on 02/04/1936 at a closed meeting of the Military Tribunal of the Kyiv Military District under Art. 54-8, 11 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR to 10 years in labor camp. Imprisoned in Solovki (arrived in June 1936), he was kept at the Kremlin camp. In conclusion, he completed a Ukrainian translation of Virgil’s Aeneid. By resolution of the Special Troika of the UNKVD LO dated 10/09/1937 he was sentenced to VMN. Shot on November 3, 1937 in the Sandormokh tract (Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic). Rehabilitated in both cases on March 31, 1958 by a decision of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR. Z.'s symbolic grave is located at the Lukyanovsky cemetery in Kyiv.
