Bursevich Maxim Tarasovich
Activist of the national liberation movement in Western Belarus
Genus. 09.8.1890 in the village. Chemeri, Slonim district, Grodno province; Belarusian; from peasants; incomplete higher education, economist-planner; candidate member of the Communist Party (b)U. He graduated from a teacher's seminary, and from 1911 he taught in the Grodno and Kharkov provinces. In 1915-1921 he lived in Ukraine; returned home in 1921 and worked as a teacher. In the first half. In the 1920s, he was arrested twice by Polish authorities for attempting to organize private Belarusian schools. In 1925 he became a member of the Belarusian Embassy Club. Since 1926 - member of the secretariat of the Belarusian Peasant and Workers' Community (BCRG), head of its Central Secretariat. Arrested by the Polish authorities in February 1927. In 1928, at the “trial of 56” (leaders and activists of the BKRG), he was sentenced to 8 years in prison; in 1929, the appeal court reduced the term to 4 years. Released in 1930, he lived in Vilna. In the USSR since 1931 on the exchange of political prisoners with Poland. Member of the Central Executive Committee of the BSSR, acting beginning Department of Culture and Science of the State Planning Committee of the BSSR, participated in the work of the Commission for the Study of Western Belarus at the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR. Before his arrest he lived in Minsk. Arrested on August 21, 1933 by the GPU of the BSSR in the case of the “Belarusian National Center”. Sentenced on 01/09/1934 under Art. 58-4, 6, 11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to death with replacement by 10 years of labor camp. In custody on Solovki. By resolution of the Special Troika of the UNKVD LO dated 10/09/1937 he was sentenced to VMN. Shot on November 3, 1937 in the Sandormokh tract (Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic). Rehabilitated on both sentences on August 16, 1956.
