Makhanov Ivan Abramovich
Head of the artillery experimental design department of the Kirov plant in Leningrad
Born 17.12.1901 in the city of Kineshma, Ivanovo region; Russian; from the workers; member of the All-Union Communist Party (bolsheviks). Lived in Leningrad (Dzerzhinsky St., Bldg. 2, Apt. 21). Head of the artillery experimental design department of the Kirov Plant in Leningrad. Arrested on 27.06.1939 as a participant in Tukhachevsky’s military conspiracy. Sentenced by the Military Commission of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 06.07.1941 under Art. 58-7-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 20 years’ imprisonment with disqualification for 5 years and confiscation of property. While imprisoned in the Vyatka, Karaganda, and Komi camps, he worked in the Moscow and Leningrad sharashkas. In 1942–1945, he organized the production of mines at the repair and mechanical plant in Karaganda. In 1945–1951, while in prison, he worked in the Special Design Bureau (OKB-172) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Leningrad, performing design work on assignments from the USSR Ministry of Armaments. He was released on parole on November 18, 1954 by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Komi ASSR dated November 16, 1954, using the Decree of July 14, 1954, into exile by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Komi ASSR. On November 12, 1955, the case was closed due to lack of corpus delicti. Author of memoirs. He died on December 28, 1980 and was buried in the Northern Cemetery in the village of Pargolovo in the Vyborg District of Leningrad.
