Urvantsev Nikolay Nikolaevich
Born in 1893 in Lukoyanov, Gorky Region; Russian; from a merchant family; higher education - graduated from Tomsk Technological Institute . Geologist, polar explorer, deputy director of the Arctic Institute. Lived in Leningrad. Arrested on 11.09.1938. Sentenced by the Leningrad Military District Military Tribunal on 01-11.09.1939 to 15 years of imprisonment and 5 years of disqualification with confiscation of property. By the resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the USSR on 11.07.1940, the sentence was overturned and the case sent for a new trial. Arrested again on 11.03.1939. Sentenced by the OS NKVD of the USSR on 30.12.1940 under Art. criminal activity to 8 years of imprisonment. On 24.06.1944, the term was reduced by 2 years. Released on 03.03.1945. Took part in the search for uranium ores in the area of the Taimyr Peninsula - raw materials for the atomic bomb being created in the USSR. On 24.02.1951 he was sentenced by the OS under the MGB for belonging to an anti-Soviet organization to exile in Krasnoyarsk Krai. Released on 27.09.1954. Rehabilitated on 16.08.1954, according to other sources, on 18.08.1954.
