Genus. in 1872 in the city of Sarapul, Vyatka province. In 1893 he graduated from the Kazan Zemstvo Paramedic School, and in 1903 from the St. Petersburg Archaeological Institute. Since 1900, he took part in many folklore and ethnographic expeditions, the results of which were widely covered in special publications. He is the pioneer of the epic tradition on lower Pechora. From 1897 to 1936 he worked in Russian and Soviet periodicals (“Son of the Fatherland”, “New Time”, “Living Antiquity”, “Local History”, etc.), in 1909-1917. He published the liberal-democratic newspaper Prikamskaya Zhizn in Sarapul and was one of the founders of the city museum. In 1924-1930 taught folklore at Leningrad University. Arrested in Leningrad 09/01/1930. Sentenced on May 20, 1931 under Art. 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR for deportation to the Northern Territory. He served exile until June 26, 1932 in Kotlas and Nikolsk (Vologda region). On March 23, 1935, as a socially dangerous element, he was deprived of the right to reside in 15 largest cities and expelled from Leningrad to Penza. Arrested for the second time in Penza in the case of a “counter-revolutionary group of churchmen” on 10/05/1939. Sentenced on March 17-20, 1940 by the Penza Regional Court to 10 years in prison. Served his sentence in penitentiary colony No. 1 of the NKVD, village. Akhuny, where he died in custody. On cases of 1931 and 1935. rehabilitated by the Leningrad Prosecutor's Office in 1989, according to Article I of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “On additional measures to restore justice for victims of repressions that took place during the 1930s-40s and early 1950s.” In the 1939 case, he was rehabilitated by the Resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR dated December 6, 1989.
