During his studies in 1910, he became a member of the Hermitage circle for preparing excursions for workers. He was left at the university in the department of world history to prepare for a professorship; in 1916 he began taking master's exams, but later devoted himself to teaching and excursion work.
Since 1913, he taught history classes at the E. F. Murashkintseva Commercial School. From September 1917 until the school was closed in December 1918, he was its director. He also taught at the gymnasium of G. K. Shtemberg (1914-1918), at the Commercial School of M. A. Shidlovskaya (1917-1918), in the 6th city. gymnasium (then 21st school in the Kuibyshev district), of which he was director in 1920-1929; headed the educational department of school No. 32 in the Oktyabrsky district (1929-1930). He was the chairman of the subject commission on history, and then on social studies. In 1923 he was elected a member of the Petrograd Soviet.
Along with working at the school, since 1919 he devoted a lot of time to excursion work: he was an employee of the Museum Department. Tour Bureau of Political Education, instructor in children's clubs and playgrounds (1919-1920), member. Council of Social Experts education of Gubono in the excursion section (1920-21), full-time leader of excursions in Kom. University im. G. E. Zinoviev (1922-25), from 1924 - Scientific Secretary of the Council of the Institute, and after its merger in 1925 with the State. Institute of Scientific Pedagogy as a research fellow, secretary of the excursion and local history commission (1925-1930), seriously studied the history of art, the history and life of St. Petersburg and its suburbs, together with N.P. Antsiferov he was the head of the Pavlovsk Seminary. Published several works on excursion methods.
In the summer of 1929, he was dismissed from Leningrad State University due to changes in the faculty programs and as having failed to “build a course in excursion business based on the Marxist method,” and in 1930 he was removed from work at the State University. Institute of Scientific Pedagogy in connection with the arrest.
In June 1930, the Bureau of Local History was involved in the case, which became an integral part of the “Academic Affairs”. He spent a year in prison and tried to commit suicide. According to the verdict of the OGPU Collegium under Art. 58 clause 11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR was sent to the administration. okay in the North edge for a period of 3 years. In the North, he worked in the Archleskhim Union as a planner-economist and economist-financier. At the end of the expulsion period, his rights were restored and he returned to Leningrad. In 1936, the conviction was cleared.
On March 11, 1942, while leaving for evacuation, he died on the train before reaching Tikhvin. Rehabilitated on September 29, 1989 by the Leningrad Prosecutor's Office.
