Oras Paul Yurievich
Naval sailor, mechanical engineer, deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Shipbuilding Industry of the People's Commissariat of the Defense Industry of the USSR, military engineer of the 1st rank
Born in 1897 in Tallinn, Estonian, from the bourgeoisie, higher education, member of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) since 1918. In 1918 he graduated from the Naval Engineering School, senior midshipman, in 1918-1920 - engine chief petty officer of the battleship "Gangut", in 1921 - mechanic of the training ship "Transbalt", in 1922 he graduated from the mechanical department of the Special Courses for the command staff of the Red Army Navy, in 1922 - commander of the cruiser "Admiral Makarov", in 1923-1926 he graduated from the mechanical department of the Naval Academy, in 1926-1928 - naval attaché in Sweden, in 1928-1931 - assistant to the chairman, chairman of the scientific and technical committee of the Red Army Navy, in 1932-1933 - lecturer at the Naval Academy, in 1933-1934 - naval attaché in Italy and Greece (simultaneously), in 1934-1936 - naval attaché in the USA, in 1936-1938 - deputy head of the Main Directorate of the Shipbuilding Industry of the People's Commissariat of the Defense Industry of the USSR. Lived in Leningrad, Vosstaniya St., bldg. 42, apt. 27. Arrested on 14.06.1937. Sentenced in absentia on 30.05.1940 by the Military Collegium of the USSR Supreme Soviet under Art. 58-7 and 58-11 of the Criminal Code of the PSFSR to 10 years' imprisonment with disqualification from participation in the criminal justice system for 5 years. He died in prison in July 1943 in Zelenodolsk. He was rehabilitated by the decision of the Military Collegium of the USSR Armed Forces on 25.04.1956.
