In 1962, for participating in a samizdat magazine in Krasnoyarsk, he was expelled from the Komsomol, of which, however, he was never a member. The first story, “Thank You,” was published in 1962 in the newspaper Krasnoyarsk Komsomolets. After graduating from the Moscow Geological Exploration Institute. S. Ordzhonikidze (1968), working as a geologist in the northeast of the USSR, continued to write stories. The first serious publication in the magazine “New World” (1976) with a foreword by Vasily Shukshin brought him all-Union fame. Accepted into the Writers' Union in 1978, seven months and thirteen days later he was expelled from the Union for creating (together with Vasily Aksenov, Andrei Bitov, Viktor Erofeev and Fazil Iskander) the legendary uncensored almanac "Metropol", which was published in the West and became the reason for the latter major literary scandal of the “Brezhnev era”. In 1980 was persecuted by the KGB as one of the authors and editors of the anthology of modern literature “Catalogue”, published in the USA. In 1988 he was reinstated in the Writers' Union.
