Genus. in 1947 in Rybinsk. He was among the organizers of the unofficial poetry group SMOG. In 1975, he published an open letter “To all of us” in samizdat, dedicated to the second anniversary of the expulsion of Alexander Solzhenitsyn, which was published in the West in 1976. This ended with a summons to the Lubyanka and deprivation of the opportunity to work in his profession. He worked as a janitor, stoker, and watchman in Moscow and Moscow region churches. He published translations under a pseudonym.
Published in the collection “Lenin Mountains. Poems by poets of Moscow State University" (Moscow, 1977). In 1979, he took part in the uncensored almanac Metropol, published in samizdat fashion and also published abroad. Since the mid-1970s, his poems have been published in Russian-language magazines and almanacs in Europe and the USA. In 1981, the first collection of poems, “Favorites,” compiled by Joseph Brodsky, was published in the United States by the Ardis publishing house.
On January 19, 1982, Kublanovsky’s apartment was searched for many hours, after which he was asked to leave the USSR. 03.10.1982 emigrated, lived in Paris, since 1986 in Munich. He met and often communicated with Solzhenitsyn. He was a member of the editorial board and compiler of the literary section of the journal “Bulletin of the Russian Christian Movement” (VRHD), published in “Russian Thought”, “Grani”, “Continent”, “Glagol” and other emigrant publications. Worked for Radio Liberty.
In 1990 returned to Russia.
