Artist, painter. People's Artist of the Russian Federation (1997), author of sketches for the modern State Emblem of the Russian Federation, insignia of presidential power, and the highest state awards of Russia.

Born in 1931 in Leningrad; Russian; in 1944-1948 studied at the secondary art school at the Academy of Arts, in 1948 he entered the Shipbuilding Technical School. Arrested on November 3, 1948. Sentenced on January 26, 1949 by the Military Tribunal of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs troops under Art. 58-10, part 1, 182, part 1 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 25 years' imprisonment. Imprisoned in Vorkutlag. In early 1954, his prison term was reduced from 25 to 10 years. Released on June 18, 1954 by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated April 27, 1954. Rehabilitated on December 8, 1959 by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR. From 1967 to 1975, he was the chief architect of the State Hermitage Museum. From 1998, he became the leading artist of the State Hermitage Museum. From 1992 to 1998, he was a specialist and expert in the apparatus of the State Heraldry under the President of the Russian Federation. In 1999, he was included in the Heraldic Council under the President of the Russian Federation. He died on September 2, 2015.
