Ukrainian Marxist historian, teacher, political figure
Born November 15, 1885 in the village of Korchmin, Skole district (Galicia); Ukrainian; from peasants; higher education - graduated from the law faculty of Lviv University (1910), Doctor of Political Science (1912); Member of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) in 1920-1930. During World War I, he was mobilized into the Austro-Hungarian Army, in 1919 - an officer (second lieutenant) of the field gendarmerie in the Ukrainian Galician Army, with one of its units he went over to the side of the Red Army. Later on scientific work. In 1920-1926 he was a professor at Kharkov University. Since 1922, he was the head of the historical department of the All-Ukrainian Institute of Marxism-Leninism (VIML) in Kharkov, and simultaneously from 1924 - deputy, in 1926-1929 - acting chairman of the Ukrainian Main Science Department under the People's Commissariat of Education of the Ukrainian SSR. Research fellow of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR (1928), academician of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (since 1929), member of the Presidium of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Worked and lived in Kharkov (46 Artema St.), Kyiv (17 Libknecht St.), and Leningrad (27 Nadezhdinskaya St., Apt. 6). In 1929, he was accused of "nationalist deviation", removed from the leadership of the historical department of VIML, expelled from the party in February 1930, and stripped of the titles of academician of the VUAN and the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR. Arrested on 10.03.1931 in Leningrad. Was involved in the case of the "Ukrainian National Center". Sentenced on 07.02.1932 by the OGPU Collegium under Art. 58-2, 5, 11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 6 years in a correctional labor camp. Imprisoned in Solovki (arrived on 10.03.1932), held at the Kremlin camp point, and the Isakovo and Filimonovo assignments. In 1933, he was delivered to the GPU of the Ukrainian SSR for additional investigation. In prison, he was tried as "the organizer and participant of the anti-Soviet organization "All-Ukrainian Central Bloc"." Sentenced to capital punishment on 10/09/1937 by the Special Troika of the NKVD LO. He was executed on 11/03/1937 in the Sandormokh tract (Karelian ASSR). Rehabilitated: in the 1937 case by the resolution of the Presidium of the Leningrad Regional Court dated 06/01/1964, in the 1932 case by the Supreme Court of the Ukrainian SSR in 1989.
