On June 30, 1941, at 2:00 a.m., he was detained; during the arrest, his wallet and 510 rubles in old money were found. On July 1, he was placed in the UGB prison of the NKVD Directorate for the Kyiv Region. Later, along with other prisoners, he was transferred to the east, and on August 15, 1941, he ended up in Tomsk Prison No. 3 of the NKVD Directorate of the Novosibirsk Region.
On January 9, 1942, prisoner Rudolf Andreevich Shpigel, under investigation, died in the Tomsk prison hospital. The cause of death was listed as "diarrhea and exhaustion."
