He graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of Petrograd University in 1918. He lectured on history at the Naval College, then at the Naval College. M. V. Frunze. In 1933-1953. worked in the Leningrad branch of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In 1953-1963. worked at the Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.From 1934 he taught at the Leningrad State Pedagogical Institute and from 1937 he was a professor at the Department of the History of the Peoples of the USSR at the Faculty of History of the Leningrad State University.
