Genus. in 1886 in Petrozavodsk in the family of a land surveyor; Russian; in 1905 he graduated from the provincial gymnasium, in 1906-1914 he studied intermittently at the Imperial St. Petersburg University; member of the RSDLP since 1905. One of the organizers of the Petrozavodsk Social Democratic Bolshevik group at the Alexander iron foundry. In 1906 - in prison, in 1908 - in exile in Veliky Ustyug. In 1912–1914 he contributed to the Pravda newspaper and the Enlightenment magazine. Since 1914 - in the army, took part in the revolutionary actions of the soldiers of the Lithuanian regiment, was elected to the Petrograd Soviet. From May 1919 - on the Southern and Ukrainian fronts as head of the political department. After the Civil War - in the Soviet and party work in Rostov-on-Don, Novonikolaevsk, Perm, in the Urals. Since 1922 - the manager of the Siberian Revolutionary Committee. Then in the apparatus of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks. In 1926–1938 he was a member of the Collegium of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR. Subsequently, he was the editor-in-chief of the Moscow publishing house Khudozhestvennaya Literatura. Died in 1960.
