Genus. in 1934 in Leningrad. After graduating from the Faculty of Philology of Leningrad University in 1956, he worked as a journalist in Kuibyshev and Leningrad. In 1961 he changed his social position and for a number of years worked as a roller and electrolyzer. In 1964 he returned to full-time journalism and a year later entered graduate school. Since 1968, he worked at the sociological institutes of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Novosibirsk and Leningrad. Candidate of Philosophical Sciences (1970). He specialized in the sociology of media, sociology of culture, sociology of personality, sociological study of lifestyle, methodology and methodology of sociological research. In 1980-1988, having entered the Leningrad Printing Machines Plant as a machine operator, he undertook an experimental study of production life from the inside. In the late 80s he returned to full-time scientific work and was a leading researcher at the St. Petersburg branch of the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Died on September 29, 2017.
