Arrested in 1938 on suspicion of double play and sentenced by a Special Conference to eight years in prison; at the end of the war, the American authorities, based on an appeal from his wife, tried to achieve his return to the USA, which could cause serious damage to the USSR; in 1947, Mairanovsky gave Oggins a lethal injection during a medical examination in prison, after which Sudoplatov and Eitingon were instructed to bury the body in the Jewish cemetery in Penza
