Genus. in 1890 in the town of Mława (Polish: Mława) of the Masovian Voivodeship; Higher education: graduated from Ghent University, mechanical and electrical engineer; Social Democrat, member of the Bund since 1912, was arrested and exiled to Siberia for participation in the Bund. During the First World War he lived in England and joined the Labor Party. He took part in the February Revolution of 1917, after which he returned to Poland; in 1919–1939 leader of the Polish branch of the Bund, member of the executive committee of the Socialist International. After the capture of Poland, Germany fled from Poland to territory occupied by Soviet troops in September 1939; arrested on September 26, 1939 in Kovel; sentenced by a visiting session of the Supreme Commissariat of the USSR Armed Forces on July 20, 1941 under Art. 54-4 to VMN; By a resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the USSR dated July 22, 1941, the sentence was replaced by 10 years of imprisonment and subsequent loss of rights for 5 years. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of 08/12/1941 on the amnesty of Polish citizens, he was released from custody - probably in connection with the plans of the Soviet leadership to create the JAC (Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee), which he immediately began together with H. Ehrlich. Arrested again - together with Erlich - by the NKVD of the USSR on 12/04/1941 without initiating a criminal case; shot in Kuibyshev on February 17, 1943. In Warsaw there is a symbolic grave of H. Ehrlich and W. Alter. Rehabilitated by the USSR Prosecutor's Office on November 13, 1990.
