Orlov Sergey Ivanovich
Ethnographer, zoologist, game warden
Born in 1889 in the village. Leonovo, Vologda district. and lips; Russian; higher education; non-partisan. Graduated from the Archaeological Institute of St. Petersburg. university; ethnographer and zoologist, specialist in the study of commercial fauna. Since 1912 he participated in scientific expeditions in Siberia. In 1918 he was mobilized into Kolchak's army in Novonikolaevsk, then served as a volunteer in the Red Army. In 1921 he was arrested on charges of participation “in a kulak uprising in the Turukhansk region”, but was released due to lack of proof of the charge. In the 1920s - 1930s, he was a participant in expeditions to identify game animals in the Urals, Central Asia, and Khakassia. Organizer of the first animal nursery in Western Siberia. Member of the Society for the Study of Siberia, researcher, author of published works. Before the second arrest, he lived in Novosibirsk (Biyskaya St., 19, apt. 6), a senior specialist at the Hunting Fishing Station. Arrested on February 20, 1933 in the case of “insurgent organization in the West Siberian Territory.” Sentenced by resolutions of the OGPU Collegium of 08/05/1933 and 08/27/1933 under Art. 58-2, 11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to execution, replaced by 10 years in labor camp. Imprisoned in the Solovetsky camp. He worked in agriculture (since 1934), gave lectures on plant protection, and conducted scientific work. Sentenced by a resolution of the Special Troika of the UNKVD LO dated November 10, 1937 to VMN. Shot on December 8, 1937 in Leningrad. Rehabilitated on July 29, 1958 by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR.
