Born in 1897 in the village of Voznesenskaya, Kuban region. The son of a peasant. He studied in separate cadet classes at the Naval Academy (1927). In 1917 he joined the RSDLP(b). From March 1918 as part of the naval detachment, from November. early airborne detachment, from Aug. 1919 commander of all landing units of the Volga military flotilla. In Sept.-Dec. 1920 beginning Naval Expeditionary Division on the Sea of Azov. In March 1921, during the suppression of the Kronstadt uprising, he commanded the Baltic fleet. In 1921 he was a member of the Revolutionary Military Council of the Naval Forces of the Black and Azov Seas. In 1922-24 early. and Commissar of the Naval Forces of the Far East. In 1927-30 he was a naval attache in Japan, from 1930 early. Headquarters of the Baltic Fleet. In 1931-35 commander of the naval forces of the Black and Azov Seas, from 1935 - the Black Sea Fleet. He, according to the memoirs of N.G. Kuznetsov, "deservedly enjoyed unusually great prestige among the personnel of the Navy." In Apr. 1937 received a severe reprimand for building a luxurious villa for himself at public expense. 10/5/1937 arrested. During the investigation, despite the torture, he refused to admit the crimes imputed to him, and also did not slander a single person. On August 22, 1938, he was sentenced to death. Shot. In 1956 he was rehabilitated.
