After October 1917, he fled with his wife and brother to the south of Russia, to Kiev, participated in the Civil War on the side of the Whites, and worked for the newspapers “Evening Lights” and “Son of the Fatherland.” Due to illness, he was unable to evacuate with the whites; he remained in Odessa and was engaged in underground anti-Soviet work. Upon leaving prison, he and his brother Boris organized a traveling circus, with which they toured the villages, organizing power shows, wrestling and boxing matches for peasants (for some time they performed together with Ivan Poddubny), until 1922 he worked as a loader. He was repeatedly invited to Dynamo to consult with the society's coaches. In 1930, he was fired from the SSTS, and got a job as a physical education instructor in a trade cooperative association. Since 1927 he was preparing to escape from the country. In September 1932, together with his son Yuri Solonevich and his brother Boris Solonevich, he tried to escape from the country through Karelia to Finland, but this attempt failed. The next attempt took place in September 1933; he was arrested along with all the participants in the escape on 09/09/1933; sentenced by the Troika PP of the OGPU to the Leningrad Military District on November 28, 1933 under Art. 58-6, 10 to 8 years of correctional labor camp.
