Definition: Russian physical geographer and glaciologist, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Honored Scientist of Russia (1971), Professor at Moscow State University (since 1949). The founder of Russian avalanche science. Main works on engineering glaciology, methods of protection against avalanches and the creation of a mining protection service.
