In 1975, he exhibited three works in Belyaev. He was soon arrested and spent a total of a year and a half in “Kresty” and in the camp, according to the official version - “for malicious hooliganism.” Released in May 1978. Forced to emigrate at the end of 1978. Lived in Austria, spent nine months near Rome in Italy, and at the end of November 1979 left for the United States as a political emigrant. From 1979 to 1985 he lived and exhibited in Buffalo, New York. In May 1985 he became a US citizen and went to Germany, where he worked for the magazine Posev as an artist.
