Topilin Vsevolod Vladimirovich
Pianist, first accompanist of David Oistrakh, teacher
Born in 1908 in the town of Yanov, Lublin County, Poland. In 1924-1928 he studied at the Kharkov Conservatory, piano class of Professor P.K. Lutsenko, since 1937 - a graduate student of the Moscow Conservatory. In 1929 he began his active concert career, participating in international competitions. In 1941 he joined the militia, was captured near Vyazma, and deported to Germany. In 1946, after returning to the USSR, he was sentenced to 10 years in a labor camp. While imprisoned in Igarka, he played in the Igarka Theater, then sent to the Taishet regime camp of the 7th Ozerlag, where he worked as a paramedic. He was released in 1954. Until 1956 he taught and gave concerts in Krasnoyarsk, in 1956-1962 taught at the Kharkov Conservatory and the Kharkov Music School, in 1962-1970 - professor, head of the special piano department of the Kyiv Conservatory.
