Genus. 03/11/1904 in Zhitomir. In 1924 he entered the Leningrad Institute of Art History. From 1925 he worked in the Vyborg district committee of the Komsomol, from 1926 - secretary of the newspaper Smena. Member of the CPSU(b) since 1927. In 1929–1936. sent to work in Khibiny as editor of the newspaper "Khibinogorsky Rabochiy". He worked as editor-in-chief of the magazines Rezets, Stroika, Zvezda, the newspaper Literary Leningrad, and head of the literature and art departments of Leningradskaya Pravda and Krasnaya Gazeta. Elected first secretary of the Leningrad branch of the Writers' Union (1934–1937). Participated in the work of the 1st All-Union Congress of Writers (1934). Elected member of the board of the USSR Writers' Union. Arrested 03/12/1937. Accused under articles 58-8, 58-11 of participation in a counter-revolutionary Trotskyist-Zinovievist terrorist organization. 03/21/1937 sentenced by the visiting session of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR to 10 years in prison, with confiscation of property and subsequent loss of rights for 5 years. Sent by convoy to the North. He served time in Solovetsky prison. The wife refused to recognize her husband as an “enemy of the people”, was expelled from the party, arrested and sent to a camp. By a resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the USSR dated June 13, 1939, the verdict was canceled and the case was transferred for a new trial. 07/02/1940 - new sentence: 5 years in prison. Sent along the stage to the Komi Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. He was kept in the Aikino camp (a branch of the North Pechersk camp). 11/01/1949 - second arrest. Accused of belonging to the Trotskyist-Zinovievist organization. 07/01/1950, by resolution of the Special Meeting at the USSR Ministry of State Security, he was exiled to a settlement in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Released in the fall of 1954. Rehabilitated. Returned to Leningrad. He resumed literary work - writing and publishing a number of books about Russian writers and poets. In 1979, he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Kirovsk.
