Genus. in 1902 in St. Petersburg. Graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Leningrad State University. Since 1927 he taught at the Higher Naval Engineering School named after. Dzerzhinsky in Leningrad. In 1929-1933. - Member of the Society for Cultural Relations with the Countries of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America (before its closure). On October 26, 1937 he was arrested on charges of espionage and fascist propaganda, and in 1940 he was sentenced to 8 years in labor camp under Article 58-16. He served time in the Monchegorsk camp, and at the beginning of the war he was transferred to the Pechora camp. In 1948, after his release, he was exiled to Volsk, where he worked as a librarian and a watchman and janitor. He moved to Frunze, where he was arrested again, sentenced to 10 years, and served time in Ozerlag. Released on parole in 1955, classified as disabled, exiled to Frunze. In 1957 he was rehabilitated and returned to Leningrad. Reinstated in military service, transferred to the reserve with the rank of major. Since 1959, he led a seminar for translators from English at the Writers' House. Accepted as a member of the USSR SP (1962). He died on December 10, 1972 in Leningrad.
