Genus. in 1915. In 1939 he graduated from the history department of the Kutaisi Pedagogical Institute, in 1946 - from the medical department of the Tbilisi Medical Institute. He taught history at school and was a school director. In August 1958, at a meeting of history teachers, he spoke out against the abolition of teaching Georgian history in Georgian schools, and accused Moscow of chauvinistic policies (his speech in 1976 was published in the samizdat magazine “Sakartvelos Moambe” No. 1 - Chronicle 45). In October 1958, he was arrested and declared insane; in January 1959, the court sent him for compulsory treatment to a mental hospital, where he stayed until September 1959. After his release, for 10 years he could not get a job in any of his specialties. In 1969, he renounced Soviet citizenship and demanded permission for himself and his family to leave the USSR. After that, he was appointed as a local doctor. KGB officers closely monitored Samkharadze. He was searched in April 1978 and February 1980. On October 23, 1980, after another search, he was arrested. He was charged under Article 71 of the Criminal Code of the Georgian SSR (analogous to Article 70 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR). In December 1981, he was released from prison due to illness and old age.
