Gerasimovich Boris Petrovich
Astronomer, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1934)
Genus. in 1889 in Kremenchug. In 1914 he graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Kharkov University. In 1916 he trained at the Pulkovo Observatory. From 1917 he taught at Kharkov University, at the same time in the 1920s he was a professor at the Kharkov Institute of Technology and the Kharkov Geodetic Institute, and head of the department of theoretical mechanics at the Kharkov Institute of Public Education (KHINO). From 1931 he was the head of the astrophysics department of the Pulkovo Observatory, and its director from 1933–1937. In 1924–1935 he repeatedly went on scientific trips to Denmark, France, and the USA. He took part in expeditions to observe total solar eclipses. Chairman of the special commission of the USSR Academy of Sciences for preparations for observing the eclipse of 07/19/1936. Arrested on June 18, 1937, on charges of organizing a “counter-revolutionary group” of Pulkovo astronomers (“Pulkovo case”). Shot on November 30, 1937 by the verdict of the visiting session of the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR.
