Rose Nikolay Vladimirovich
Born in 1890 in St. Petersburg, into a family of an employee; Russian; higher education (graduated from St. Petersburg University in 1912; no p. In 1912-1917 he worked at the Main Geophysical Observatory. In 1917-1921 - a participant in the Northern Hydrographic Expedition, conducted scientific research in the Kara and Barents Seas. In 1918-1920 - in the White Army reserve in Arkhangelsk. He taught theoretical mechanics and physics at the technical faculties of the Red Army Naval Academy, Petrograd State University and the Naval Hydrographic School (1921-1942), at the Department of Theoretical Mechanics of the Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics (1937-1941). In 1925-1937 - Director of the Bureau of General Magnetic Survey of the USSR. In 1929 he headed the newly created Department of Analytical Mechanics, head of the department magnetometry in 1932-1942. In 1932 he was appointed the first director of the Central Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism and Atmospheric Electricity of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He organized and successfully conducted a general geomagnetic survey of the USSR, which served as the basis for constructing magnetic maps of the USSR. Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences in the section of applied physics (geophysics) without defending a dissertation, professor (1935). Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics of Leningrad State University (1942). In 1942 he lived in Leningrad at the address: Leningrad, V.O., 16th line, bldg. 29, apt. 11a. Arrested on 31.01.1942. Charged under Art. 58-3, 58-10 part 2, 58-11. Died during the investigation. On 23.04.1942 the case was dismissed. Rehabilitated VT LVO 2012.1954.
