Ukrainian revolutionary and public and political figure, translator, journalist
Born 01(13). 02.1883 in the town of Starodub, Chernigov province; Ukrainian; from a family of artisans; higher education; member of the Communist Party of Ukraine (Bolsheviks) in 1926-1929 (expelled during the party purge). From 1904 he lived in Ukraine. Studied at Moscow University (1902), in St. Petersburg. Polytechnic Institute (1904); did not complete the course (expelled as “unreliable”). An active figure in the Revolutionary Ukrainian Party (RUP), in 1907 a member of the Central Committee of the USDRP. In 1907 he edited an illegal immigrant. magazine "Social Democrat" in Poltava. Arrested and sentenced to exile in the Arkhangelsk province for 3 years, with replacement by deportation outside the empire for the same period. In 1908 he went abroad. He lived in Zurich (Switzerland), and in Prague from 1911–1914. During the 1st world. war collaborated with the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine. Graduated from the University of Vienna and the Prague Polytechnic. Member of the Communist Party of Austria (since 1918), Communist Party of Galicia (since 1919), Communist Party of Western Ukraine (since 1921). Member of the Central Committee of the USDRP. Since 1919 in Vienna he published in Russian. language "Communist Library". He worked at the diplomatic mission of the Ukrainian SSR in Berlin, and from July 1924 in Prague. In 1925 he returned to the USSR and lived in Kharkov. He worked as a scientific secretary of the People's Commissariat of Education of the Ukrainian SSR, taught at Kharkov universities, and was an editor and translator of the State University. publishing house of Ukraine. Before the arrest, the head. Department of Political Economy, Professor at the Kharkov Institute of Public Utilities. In 1932 he was accused of “nationalist distortions” and dismissed in January 1933. Arrested on March 23, 1933 in the “Ukrainian Military Organization” case. By a resolution of the judicial troika at the Collegium of the GPU of the Ukrainian SSR dated October 1, 1933, he was sentenced under Art. 54-11 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR to 5 years of labor camp. In custody on Solovki. By resolution of the Special Troika of the UNKVD LO dated 10/09/1937 he was sentenced to VMN. Shot on November 3, 1937 in the Sandormokh tract (Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic). Rehabilitated on 05/09/1958 and 11/05/1959 by the Arkhangelsk Regional Court.
