Genus. 07/14/1897 in the village. Pyadiki (Galicia; modern Kolomiysky district, Ivano-Frankivsk region); Ukrainian; secondary education; member of the Communist Parties of Western Ukraine, Canada (1923–1929) and the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine. Graduated from the Lvov Teachers' Seminary (1914). Published since 1918. To the 1st world. Served in the Austro-Hungarian army during the war, serving as a sub-horser in the Sich Riflemen Corps. In 1921 he transferred to the Red Army; commissar of the propaganda train, edited the Bolshevik newspaper. In 1921–1922 he was a lecturer at the school of red elders in Kyiv. In 1922–1923 in Prague, he studied at Charles University. In the fall of 1923 he left for Canada, secretary of the foreign branch of the Union of Proletarian Writers "Gart". In 1932 he returned to the USSR, lived in Kharkov, and headed the Union of Proletarian Writers of Western Ukraine "Hart". Arrested on December 28, 1933 in the “Ukrainian Military Organization” case. Sentenced on 02/28/1934 by the judicial troika at the Collegium of the GPU of the Ukrainian SSR under Art. 54-6, 8, 11 of the Criminal Code of the Ukrainian SSR to 10 years of labor camp. In custody in the 4th department of the Belbaltlag (lagkommando South Guba), in Segezha and Solovki (since 1936). He was kept at the Kremlin camp and participated in productions of the camp theater. By resolution of the Special Troika of the UNKVD LO dated 10/09/1937 he was sentenced to VMN. Shot on November 3, 1937 in the Sandormokh tract (Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic). Rehabilitated 04/03/1956. A memorial museum has been opened in I.'s homeland.
