Born in 1893 in Smolensk. In 1912 he graduated with a silver medal from the Smolensk five-grade gymnasium. Member of the Bund from 1912 to 1917. In September 1915 he was drafted into the army, a year later he was demobilized due to illness. In 1916 he entered the economics department of the Kyiv Commercial Institute, in 1918 he was expelled. In March 1918 he was appointed head of the extracurricular department of the Smolensk Provincial Department of Public Education (GUBONO). In November 1918 he joined the RCP(b) and the Red Army. From January 1919 to November 1920 - deputy chief, then chief of the Political Directorate of the Western Military District. From November 1920 to November 1921 - chief of the Higher Party School of the Western Front. In December 1921 he was sent to Marxism courses at the Communist Academy in Moscow, in 1922 he entered the history department of the Institute of Red Professors, and graduated in 1925. In 1926 he was sent to Leningrad as the head of the department of general history at the Tolmachev Military-Political Academy. He combined this with work at the Institute of History of the Leningrad Branch of the Communist Academy (LOKA), the N.K. Krupskaya Pedagogical Institute and the Leningrad Institute of Philosophy, History and Linguistics. In 1934 he was approved as a professor in the department of general history at LIFLI. He lived in Leningrad (Kirochnaya St., Bldg. 19, Apt. 28). In accordance with the decree of the Central Committee of 04.02.1935, he was exiled by party order to the city of Zima in the East Siberian Territory and appointed to the post of head of the district department of public education. Arrested on 04.06.1936, imprisoned in Irkutsk, then escorted to the disposal of the NKVD Directorate for the Leningrad Region. Sentenced to capital punishment by the Supreme Court of the USSR on 11.10.1936. Executed on 11.10.1936. Rehabilitated on 11.05.1957 by the Supreme Court of the USSR.
